About Owl Bookkeeping \& CFO Services
Owl Bookkeeping \& CFO Services partners with entrepreneurial businesses by providing bookkeeping, controller, and CFO services. We believe business owners deserve more than financial statements—they deserve a trusted advisory team that helps them make confident business decisions.
We're looking for a highly experienced Fractional CFO to become a long\-term strategic advisor to Owl leadership.
This is not a traditional client\-facing fractional CFO role.
- Our CFOs are not boardroom\-only executives.
- We're looking for someone who is equally comfortable discussing long\-term business strategy and opening a QuickBooks Online file to help solve a complex accounting issue.
- You'll serve as a trusted advisor to Owl leadership while helping strengthen our accounting team, advisory services, and internal CFO framework.
- If you're looking for a role focused primarily on investor relations, M\&A, board reporting, or executive presentations, this likely isn't the right fit.
What You'll Do
*As Owl's Fractional CFO, you'll:*
- Serve as a strategic thought partner to Owl leadership.
- Advise on complex accounting, financial, and operational client situations.
- Help troubleshoot accounting issues alongside our controllers and leadership team.
- Coach and mentor controllers through technical accounting questions and best practices.
- Strengthen our internal CFO methodologies, service offerings, and advisory approach.
- Review financial reporting, cash flow, forecasting, and business performance.
- Help develop scalable systems and processes as Owl continues to grow.
- Provide practical recommendations—not just strategy.
Who Thrives in This Role
- You enjoy moving between strategy and execution.
- One hour you may be discussing growth strategy, KPIs, and cash flow forecasting.
- The next hour you may be reviewing a balance sheet, discussing revenue recognition, helping improve a month\-end close process, or coaching a controller through a complex accounting issue.
- If you enjoy both, you'll likely love this role.
What We're Looking ForRequired
- 10\+ years of experience as a Controller, CFO, or senior accounting/finance leader.
- Strong technical accounting foundation.
- Experience supporting small and mid\-sized businesses.
- Advanced QuickBooks Online knowledge.
- Comfortable reviewing reconciliations, financial statements, month\-end close, and accounting processes.
- Experience mentoring accounting professionals.
- Excellent communication and problem\-solving skills.
- Twin Cities resident willing to meet in person regularly.
Preferred
- CPA (active or inactive).
- Experience working in an outsourced accounting or fractional CFO environment.
- Experience supporting multiple businesses simultaneously.
- Master's degree.
What We're NOT Looking For
*This probably isn't the right role if:*
- You prefer staying at a high\-level executive strategy role.
- You haven't worked in QuickBooks Online or a small business accounting environment in several years.
- You're looking to build your own client portfolio through Owl.
- You're seeking a full\-time executive position.
Why Owl?
- Long\-term consulting relationship.
- Flexible schedule.
- Collaborative leadership team.
